Childrens's - Sci-Fi genre

Spy Kids is a action Sci-fi film about two siblings who are both spy's.  Children may relate to this film as they may have a brother or sister and have dreams of being a spy, as the two main characters are children this shows the target audience is children.

Although this is a sci-fi film, there is a lot of action involved, sci-fi, adventure and action all link together very well and all used in this film as a lot of children could relate to the kids in the film as the viewers

Inspector Gadget

Inspector Gadget is a children's film, and you can tell this just by the opening sequence. For example animation is used, this attracts a lot of young children as it is very unrealistic. Also the themes of the film are reflected in the opening sequence, obviously it is about an inspector who has gadgets that are shown in the clip.

The target Audience for this film is for children, you can see this as a lot of children would dream about using gadgets much like the ones shown.

the incredibles-action film

The incredibles is perfect example of a children's action film. The characters in this movie all fit in very nicely to the genre of this movie. characters in this film are all superhero's which is great for children, as it gives them someone to analyse and look up to. all characters have powers that children may dream and aspire of having. The film itself is based on a familly with powers, which children may relate to.

This film is full action, but not in a very violent way, as it is quite unrealistic therefore does not scare children. The action in the film is full of make belive fighting that excites children. The film doesn't include any realistic weapons to ensure the young audience is not influenced to use a weapon.

Snow White

Despite Snow White being certified as a U the film features some inappropriate features for this certification. The story's villain: Snow White's evil step mother, turns into a terrifying witch at different points throughout the story, this could be seen as too scary for an audience of this age. She also poisons her step daughter with an apple which is a scary moment as an apple is an everyday object. The whole feeling of the film is quite dark and just generally inappropriate for the age it is supposed to be directed at.

where the wild things are

1. Which audiences this attract and why?
This film attracts younger audiences as it is based on a young boy therefore the audience can relate. The story line in the film also seems as if it was targeted at a younger audience as it is full of adventure and action that children would be interested in. The story line was not very realistic, like a dream and for this reason I think it would attract a younger audience. The film also may attract a slightly older audience due to the fact that it was originally created as a children’s book in 1963, therefore may have an older audience watching the film who grew up reading it.

2. Would you class this as a children’s film?
Yes I would class this film as a children’s film as it is very make-believe and has a lot of characters children would find entertaining. The story is based on a child therefore children can relate to the character. The film is not violent and is obviously aimed at children because of the characters it has in and the make-believe story line.

3. Research the institutional information and inspiration behind the film.
The film was originally a book before. It was written by Maurice Sendak in 1963, many years before the film was made. The book is where the film and inspiration came from, and what it is made according to. The book itself is very creative and interesting meaning the film had to match. They created characters according to book by using animation to bring them to life and create what they felt these characters should look and act like.

Where the Wild Things Are

1)      Where the Wild Things Are is based on the story book for young children and so the film would appeal to the older people who remember reading the story nostalgically and also a young audience who are enjoying the story for the first time. The film also has a contemporary soundtrack and was advertised heavily by the music media so the film would also attract young music lovers.
2)      The film is made for children but some of the more subtle underlying themes of the film make it also enjoyable for older people too.
3)      The film is based on the classic children’s picture book published in 1963. Production companies had wanted to make the film for years using digital animation but never thought that the technology they had available would do the book justice eventually Spike Jonze began work on the film as the director using a mix of real life acting and CGI techniques. This method makes the film look stylishly magical.

Jumanji - Adventure genre

From the opening first moments you can see why it is rated as an adventure film, the lighting and dialogue used, for example when the two boys are berrying the box one says to the other something along the lines of "What if someone digs it up?" the other replies, " God have mercy on his soul" this shows that you can see that the box will get dug up and the box possesses something very important.

This links to the opening titles, it is spooky dark with green text. In general the first few minute of the film contrast to what the target audience would generally like.

homework

Screening of film
Where the film things are:
1.       Which audiences would this attract and why?
The film was originally based on a children’s book, so you would first think that the film was aimed to very young to older children. The book is very old so a lot of people may have read it, so also adults could be interest as well.
2.       Would you class his as a children’s film?
I think I would class the film as being for children mostly. Although a wide range of age groups would be interested in watching it.
3.       Research the institutional information and inspiration behind the film.
The film was originally a children’s picture book, it was published in 1963. It was written or illustrated by Maurice Sendak and published by Harper & Row and has sold over 18milllion copies worldwide as of 2008. I believe the success of the book must have been a strong reason why they decided to make it into a live-action feature film, and also as it was a picture book it might be hard to make it into a full long film, so it could have been a challenge.

Toy Story

Toy Story appeals to a young audience because every child dreams of their toys coming to life! The film uses iconic and classic toys that everyone has had to make the story easier to relate to and funny as each character has a flamboyant character often different to how the toy would usually be perceived.

The genre of the film is hard to pin down but the genre that best describes the film would be adventure.

The moral of the story is that is important to stick by your friends.

Really happy with the shots we got. We managed to edit them quickly and efficiently. The soundtrack we added gives the piece an interesting atmosphere along with the text we added. We are definitely ready to begin work on our children's film coursework.
